Fan Friday-Taco Braid

1/ In a skillet, brown 1lb of ground meat. Season with your favorite taco seasoning.
When meat is just cooked through add half of a small onion and let cook a few minutes. Adding the onion now keeps it slightly crunchy.
Rinse and drain 1- 15oz can of black beans. Add to meat.
Drain 1 can of rotel tomatoes. Add to meat.
Heat til mixture is hot through out.

2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (makes clean up easy). Roll out 1 package of crescent roll onto baking sheet. Mend the perforations.

3. Cut crescent sheet on both sides 1inch apart. A pizza cutter works well

4. Put cooked meat mixture in center of cut crescent sheet

5. Put 2 cups of grated cheddar cheese on top of meat mixture

6. Fold crescent strips over meat mixture and press the strips together to seal the braid.

7. Bake in 350° oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown

8. Let sit for 5-10minutes to allow the Taco Braid to set.

Serve and enjoy.
Thank you so much Christy K. for sharing this yummy and easy recipe with us!

I must say that I made this last night for dinner and it was so good!  I made it using the dough recipe that I use for everything and I added a "sauce" at the bottom made by mixing 1/2 cup salsa (pureed in the food processor) and 1/2 can of vegetarian refried beans.  I layered this on the bottom then added the meat on top and braided the bread closed.   I didn't have any black beans so I skipped that part and I honestly forgot to add the cheese inside haha.  It was super yummy and a big hit in our home.  Kinda like a taco pizza calzone.  We topped it with our usual taco topping favorites including salsa, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, shredded cheese and avocados.

  5. I want to make this for a freezer meal. Would you cook it first or just get it all ready and then freeze it?

  7. I found this recipe on Pinterest a few weeks ago and my entire family loves it! My husband is a picky eater and asks me to put this on the menu. :)

  8. Did anyone else have a hard time getting the mixture to fit. I made the meat beans and tomatoes but had to fit it on 2 rolls

  10. I had a bit of a difficult time with the crescent rolls at first, they ripped a bit when I went to pull the strips together, and I didn't use the generic brand of rolls either, but it ended up being a HUGE hit in the house. My husbands army buddies came over and they really enjoyed it. It's been dubbed "Taco Pot Pie". And they ate all of it! One of them asked if there was anymore, after he ate the last of it, haha. It was a really great meal, so tasty! And something my husband and I could actually cook together. Thank you for posting this recipe, definitely going on the menu frequently!

  12. Really good, but the can of crescent rolls that I got was not even close to being enough. The picture shows 3 sections of dough whereas my can had only 2 sections. I only used 1/2 of the meat mixture & I still couldn't get the dough to "close up" completely. Will get more dough & use up the rest of the meat mixture later.

  13. This is so good and I've found that the "extra" meat mixture that doesn't fit in the roll makes a excellent dip! In fact tomorrow for our family gathering I'm bringing JUST the meat mixture and chips!!!!!!

  14. Made this tonight and my husband and I loved it!!!

  15. Too much meat for the one can of crescent rolls, I also forgot the beans, no room for them. It's in the oven now and I know it will be good even without the bean. Next time I will only make 1/2 the recipe or two can of rolls.

  18. This was quite good! I used ground turkey instead, and I had enough of the meat mixture to make two braids. It was just enough to feed 10 people, I only wish I had leftovers!

  19. Just made this recipe. Everyone thought it looked and tasted delicious! Like others have said before, there is plenty of the meat mixture for two braids. I served it with various taco fixings, but I liked it best plain and at room temperature.

  20. How does this get served? Sliced? Does anybody add a side salad to this meal? Like one person above mentioned, sounds like a Taco Calzone or stromboli.

  24. Don't have crescent rolls and don't wanna go to the store. lol I'll make some pie dough. Thanks for the recipe idea. We raise beef cows and I run out of fresh ideas for using up my ground beef. This looks like a winner! :)

  27. Made this today, used pie crust, didn't have crescent rolls, also added corn and chopped jalapenos, used left over turkey from Thanksgiving. With left over meat mixture, put them in egg roll wrappers and deep fried.OMG!!!!!! The egg rolls are going to the Christmas gathering. They can be frozen and warmed in the oven. This is a wonderful recipe and will be making again. Absolutely Awesome!!!

  29. The recipe looks so yummy, easy and versatile. I have "the girls" coming for cards tonight and think I'll make this for them. I have a ton of pie crust in the fridge and see where someone used that instead of the crescents, I wonder if that lengthened the baking time? Looking forward to a delish appetizer tonight. Thanks!
